Where does my data live — is it on a server?
Yes. Your account, streak, and circle sync securely through our servers, which is why the same screen shows up whether you open Breaking Chains on your phone or your laptop. That sync is the point — your progress and your circle follow you. The one thing we deliberately keep off our servers is your browsing history (next question).
Do you store the websites I visit?
No. When the filter blocks a site, your device sorts it into a category — adult, or a bypass / proxy tool — and only that category is ever recorded. The actual web address is never saved to our servers and never sent to anyone. We do not warehouse anyone’s browsing tied to their name. It is an ethical line we will not cross.
What exactly do the people in my circle see?
Only the category of a blocked-site attempt, plus events like an override request, a tamper attempt, a streak reset, or a milestone. Never a URL, never your history. The full breakdown is in the “What your circle sees” section above.
Can Breaking Chains itself see my browsing?
No. The category is worked out on your device, and only the category leaves it. There is no dashboard where we, or anyone, can read the sites you visited. That is by design, not by promise.
Who can turn off my protection?
Not you alone in a weak moment — that is the whole idea. Overrides notify your circle instantly, and an ally holds the unlock code. On phones, the filter is built so that disabling it alerts your circle in real time. Weakening the protection is never silent.
How many sites do you actually block?
More than 850,000+ pornographic and bypass domains right now, and the list grows continuously. New sites are pulled in automatically, and over time your own community can flag ones we have missed.
Does my circle have to be all men?
No. Your circle is whoever you trust to walk this road with you — a friend, a mentor, a sibling, a spouse. We call them allies. You choose who is in it and what they are told.
Is this shame-based?
No. It is identity-first and grace-first: accountability with people who love you, never surveillance and never shame. The goal is freedom, walked out with a circle beside you.
