Breaking Chains ("we", "us") is a private accountability service that helps members guard their homes and devices against pornography and connects them with accountability partners they choose. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the commitments we make about your information.
Blocked DNS lookups are recorded as a category and a time, not the site name. Operational logs can also include a source IP address or resolver profile identifier. These records can contain sensitive activity and are not a complete browsing history. A blocked lookup can come from background traffic and does not prove deliberate browsing.
The local proxy rotates its operational log by size (50 MiB with three backups), not by age. A fixed deletion period for blocked-lookup event records and cloud resolver logs is not verified. Account deletion must not be assumed to erase those records.
Accountability partners receive automated text messages from Breaking Chains when the member they support needs encouragement, plus occasional account notifications.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with, or sold to, any third party.
We do not sell any personal information, period. We share data only with the service providers required to operate Breaking Chains (such as our messaging carrier), and only to the extent needed to deliver the service.
Everything you have written and recorded belongs to you, and you do not need to ask us for it.
Settings offers an account export with profile and member content records. Media are listed by filename rather than included as files. Complete coverage of operational logs and provider records is not verified.
Automatic 30-day deletion of minors' AI conversations is not verified. Conversation retention and deletion coverage remain unresolved for both tracks; do not rely on automatic expiry.
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from the same place. Account deletion removes collected member files and matching entries in shared content. Complete coverage of operational logs, backups and provider records is not verified. We show you exactly what will be removed before anything happens, and it cannot be undone afterwards.
One thing we do not delete: if other members have posted in your room, their words stay theirs. Account deletion targets your member content and leaves other members' posts in place.
Accountability partners may ask to have their contact details removed at any time by emailing [email protected]. Texting STOP immediately ends all messages to your number.
Accounts start at age 13. The women's path has an additional minor ally requirement, described below. We think a young person who wants help should be able to get it, and we know that asking a parent first is exactly the thing that stops many from ever starting.
Because of that, we hold less of your information than we hold for an adult. Not because we trust you less. Because the safest thing we can do with a young person's private struggle is not to be holding very much of it in the first place.
Until you turn 18:
Everything that actually protects you is open to you right now: the filter, your own AI companion, the daily check-ins, the scripture, and the SOS button. The women's minor ally requirement still applies.
You are never placed in a room with anyone. Only people you personally invite can join yours.
If you are under 13, we cannot make you an account on your own. We would still love to help protect you, and the law requires a parent or guardian to set it up with you. Show this page to an adult you trust. If there is nobody you can show it to right now, you can text HOME to 741741 any time and a real person will answer.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email [email protected] and we will remove it.
For members under 18, women's onboarding asks for a parent, guardian or trusted adult woman as an ally. Account setup checks that an ally contact was entered, based on the selected path and birth year. It does not verify the ally's age, gender, relationship or consent. Those safeguards remain unresolved.
The three supported sharing switches are streak, overrides and resets. The streak switch also controls milestone alerts. These switches do not disable tamper or blocked-lookup alerts; missing or unreadable settings can permit alerts. Weekly summaries are unavailable. Women's circle access requires owner-confirmed women allies and matching account permissions; legacy contacts require reconfirmation. We do not automatically assign mentors on the women's path. These checks record member choices, not independent verification of identity, gender, age or consent. The alert controls do not guarantee suppression of every alert path. Circle posts and AI conversation retention are separate from these alert settings.
Settings provides account export and deletion controls. Export lists media filenames rather than including the media files. Complete erasure of operational logs, backups and provider records is not verified.
