Getting started
What this is, who it is for, and how fast you can be protected.
What is Breaking Chains?
Breaking Chains is a porn blocker and accountability tool in one. It blocks pornographic and bypass sites across your devices, and it puts a small circle of people you trust beside you, who are told the moment protection is weakened. The blocker holds the door; your circle holds your heart. Freedom is the goal, not just filtering.
How is this different from a parental control app?
Parental controls are built for a parent to watch a child on one device. Breaking Chains is built for an adult who wants this for himself, with peers who love him rather than a parent policing him. It protects across every screen and every network, and its heart is not surveillance and punishment, it is grace, honesty, and a way out. It also works for families, but the default posture is a person choosing freedom, not being caught.
Who is it for?
Anyone who is tired of fighting this alone. Breaking Chains is built primarily for men, single or married, new to the fight or years in and weary. Your circle of allies, though, can be anyone you trust, including a wife or a sister. If you have ever promised yourself "never again" and broken it, this was built for you.
How fast can I be protected?
Under a minute. You install device-level protection first, which covers your own phone and computer everywhere you go, on wifi and on cellular. Whole-home coverage for TVs, consoles, and guests is an optional next step, never a wall between you and getting protected today.
How it works
The technical side, in plain language.
How does the blocking actually work?
Every time a device loads a site, it first asks a DNS resolver, "what is the address for this site?" Breaking Chains is the resolver that refuses to answer for more than 999,000+ pornographic and bypass domains. No answer, no connection. It is fast, it works in every browser and app, and there is nothing to uninstall a filter around.
Does it work on cellular data, or just my home wifi?
Both. On your phone and computer, protection travels with the device through an always-on connection to our resolver, so you are covered on cellular, coffee-shop wifi, and a friend's house, not just at home. Home wifi and router coverage is an extra layer for the devices that cannot run an app.
Will it slow down my internet?
No, in any way you would notice. We only handle the tiny DNS lookup, not your actual traffic, and our resolver runs on a fast global network. Video, work, and browsing are unaffected.
Can I still use the internet normally?
Completely. Everything works as usual. Pornographic and known bypass sites simply do not load. If a legitimate site is ever caught by mistake, your circle can flag it and we correct it quickly.
Can't someone just turn it off?
On a phone you own, no software can be made truly impossible to remove, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can do, and do reliably, is make sure that the moment protection is disabled or tampered with, your circle gets a text in real time. The strength here is not a lock no one can pick. It is that weakening it is never silent, and someone who loves you knows in the moment.
Router & whole-home
Covering the TVs, consoles, tablets, and guests that cannot run an app.
What does whole-home protection cover?
Every device on your home network, including the ones you cannot install an app on: smart TVs, streaming sticks, game consoles, tablets, and even a guest's phone while it is on your wifi.
My router won't let me change its DNS. What do I do?
You are not alone, and it is not your fault. The gateways from Xfinity, AT&T, Cox, and T-Mobile commonly lock the DNS setting. For those homes we offer a small pre-configured device you plug in that becomes the DNS gatekeeper for everything behind it, so you get whole-home coverage without ever logging into your router. You can also always keep every phone and computer protected at the device level in the meantime.
What is the plug-in box?
A small device we pre-configure to point at Breaking Chains before we mail it to you. You plug it in between your internet box and your network, and in a few minutes your whole home is covered. One-time device, no technical setup, and nothing to log into. It is the easiest path for anyone who does not want to touch router settings.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. On iPhone we install a DNS profile that follows you on wifi and cellular. On Android we use an always-on on-device filter. Both keep protection with you everywhere, not just at home.
Your circle
The people who walk with you, and exactly what they see.
What is an ally, and who should I choose?
An ally is someone you trust to walk this road with you and to be told when you need them. Choose people who are for you and safe to be honest with: a friend, a mentor, a sibling, a spouse. Two to five is plenty. The right ally is not the most impressive person you know, it is the one who will actually pick up the phone.
What exactly do my allies see?
Only the category of a blocked-site attempt, plus events like an override request, a tamper attempt, a streak reset, or a milestone to celebrate. They never see the actual website you visited, and never a browsing history. Real-time for safety, morning-only for celebrations so no one is woken at 3 a.m.
Can my spouse be my ally?
Yes, and for many people their spouse is the most important one. A word of wisdom: a spouse carries this differently than a friend does, especially early in healing. Many couples choose to add a same-gender friend or mentor as well, so the marriage is not the only place the weight lands. You decide who is in your circle and what each person is told.
Is there an AI ally?
Yes. Strive is an AI ally that is part of every circle. Strive is in your corner around the clock, someone to talk it out with anytime, with no judgment and no shame. Soon Strive will also reach out to you, a text to check in and encourage you in the fight, and to walk with you in the moments right after a setback. (Proactive check-in texts arrive once our messaging line is live.)
Privacy & your data
What we store, and what we never will.
Where does my data live, is it on a server?
Yes. Your account, streak, and circle sync securely across your devices, which is why the same screen shows on your phone and your laptop. The one thing we deliberately keep off our servers is your browsing history.
Do you store the websites I visit?
No. When the filter blocks a site, your device sorts it into a category and only that category is recorded. The actual address is never saved to our servers and never sent to anyone. We do not warehouse anyone's browsing tied to their name. It is a line we will not cross.
Can Breaking Chains itself see my browsing?
No. There is no dashboard where we, or anyone, can read the sites you visited. That is by design, not just a promise.
Faith & the heart
The questions people ask God at 2 a.m. but rarely ask a person.
What does the Bible actually say about pornography?
Scripture never uses the word "pornography," but it speaks directly to what it is: using sexuality outside of covenant, and feeding lust in the heart. Jesus said that looking at another person to lust after them is already adultery of the heart (Matthew 5:28). Paul writes, "flee from sexual immorality" (1 Corinthians 6:18), and calls our bodies temples of the Holy Spirit.
But the Bible's tone toward strugglers is not disgust, it is rescue. The same book that names the sin also says there is no condemnation for those in Christ (Romans 8:1). It treats this as a chain to be broken, not a verdict to be handed down.
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free." (Galatians 5:1)
Is looking really a sin? It feels harmless.
Jesus took it seriously precisely because it is not harmless. Lust rehearses using another person made in God's image as an object, it trains the brain toward isolation and secrecy, and over time it reshapes what you desire. The point of naming it as sin is not to shame you, it is to tell you the truth: this is stealing something from you, and it is worth being free of.
I have failed so many times. Is there actually hope for me?
Yes. Not because you will finally try hard enough, but because freedom was never meant to be white-knuckled alone in the dark. Almost everyone who finds lasting freedom has two things you may have been missing: honesty with real people, and grace instead of shame. Shame says "I am bad, so I might as well." Grace says "I am loved, so I can get up again." The number of times you have fallen is not the story. Whether you keep getting up, with people beside you, is.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us and cleanse us." (1 John 1:9)
Isn't this just shame-based religion with an app attached?
No, and we built it specifically to be the opposite. Shame drives this in the dark, where it grows. We are trying to drag it into the light with people who love you, which is where it dies. There are no lectures here, no scorekeeping God waiting to catch you. Just truth, grace, and a circle. If your experience of faith has been mostly condemnation, this may be the first time you hear it differently: you are not your worst day.
Does God still love me if I keep going back to it?
Yes. His love for you was never based on your performance, and it does not switch off when you fail. He is not surprised by your struggle and he is not done with you. The invitation is not "clean yourself up and then come back." It is "come as you are, and let me do the changing." Freedom is something he grows in you, not a test you pass to earn him.
How do I actually walk in freedom instead of just barely holding on?
Barely holding on is exhausting because it is all defense. Lasting freedom adds three things: protection so the door is not wide open in weak moments, people who know the real you and speak in the moment, and a new identity to walk toward, not just an old habit to run from. You are not only quitting something, you are becoming someone. That is why we pair the blocker with a circle and with a daily word of hope, not just a counter.
Marriage, kids & real life
How this touches the people and the life you love, and why it is so hard.
How does porn affect my marriage and my spouse?
More than most people admit. It quietly trains you toward fantasy and away from your real spouse, it builds a secret life that erodes intimacy even when nothing is "discovered," and when it does come to light it often lands on a spouse as a deep betrayal, not a small slip. Many spouses describe the secrecy as more painful than the images. The good news is the reverse is also true: honesty, protection, and consistent change over time can rebuild trust that felt gone. Transparency is not the punishment, it is the path back.
Should I tell my spouse?
In most cases, honesty is the road to real intimacy, but how and when matters, and you do not have to do it alone or unprepared. Many people bring a trusted mentor, pastor, or counselor into that conversation. Secrecy is what porn feeds on, so moving toward the light is almost always right. If your marriage feels unsafe, get a wise, safe person involved first. This is worth doing carefully, and it is worth doing.
How does this affect my kids?
Two ways. First, exposure: the average child today encounters porn far younger than most parents imagine, and early exposure can shape shame, anxiety, and a distorted view of sex and other people before they have any framework for it. Second, modeling: kids absorb what is normal in a home. A parent who fights for freedom and honesty, and who protects the home's devices, is teaching them more than any lecture could. Whole-home protection exists largely for them.
How do I protect my kids from it?
Layers, not one silver bullet. Whole-home coverage on the network catches the TVs, tablets, and consoles. Device-level protection follows their phones off wifi. And the most important layer is not technical at all: an ongoing, shame-free conversation so that when they do encounter something, they come to you instead of hiding. The tech buys you time and reduces exposure. The relationship does the rest.
Why is it so hard to quit? What is wrong with me?
Nothing is wrong with you, and understanding this brings a lot of relief. Pornography hijacks a normal reward system. It floods the brain with dopamine on a scale everyday life does not, and the brain adapts by wanting more to feel the same, a real neurological pattern, not a character flaw or weak willpower. It also tends to attach itself to stress, loneliness, boredom, and pain, so it becomes the go-to escape. That is why willpower alone so often fails: you are fighting a rewired pattern with a tired will. The way out is not more shame or more willpower, it is removing easy access, healing the reasons underneath, and not doing it alone. Brains can and do rewire back toward health. It is hard, and it is absolutely possible.
Can this really affect my job or career?
Yes, in ways people rarely connect. It costs focus, motivation, and mental energy, it can pull people into using on work devices or time in ways that carry real professional risk, and the secrecy and shame drain the confidence and presence that good work requires. Many people are stunned by how much sharper, more present, and more driven they feel weeks into freedom. This is not only a spiritual or marital issue, it quietly taxes everything, including your work.
Why do I feel so alone in this?
Because shame's whole strategy is isolation. It tells you that you are the only one, that you are uniquely broken, and that if anyone knew they would leave, so you hide, and hiding makes it worse. The truth is that this is one of the most common struggles there is, and almost no one talks about it, which is exactly why it feels lonely. The first and hardest step is also the most powerful: letting one safe person in. The moment you are known, the lie starts to lose its grip.
Where our limits are
The honest version. We would rather tell you than have you find out.
Can you make it impossible to remove on my own phone?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. On a phone you own, a determined person can eventually turn protection off. What we guarantee instead is that the moment it happens, your circle is told in real time. The strength is not an unbreakable lock, it is that breaking it is never silent.
Can you see and block explicit images themselves?
Not yet. Today we block at the DNS level, which stops known pornographic and bypass sites from ever loading. We cannot yet look at an individual image, for example a nude picture texted directly to you, and block it. On-device image recognition that could blur an explicit picture before you see it is on our roadmap, not a current feature.
Does it catch absolutely everything?
No filter does. New sites appear constantly. We block more than 999,000+ domains, pull in new ones automatically, and let the community flag what we miss, but no tool can promise 100 percent. That is exactly why the circle matters as much as the filter.
Is every device and setup covered today?
Phone and computer coverage is live. Whole-home through a plug-in box, the Android app, and native encrypted-DNS support are rolling out in stages. If something is not covered yet, we will tell you plainly rather than imply it is.
On the roadmap
Where we are headed, built in the open.
On-device image recognition
Vision that can recognize an explicit image on your screen and blur it before you see it, for example a nude picture sent to you directly, which a URL blocklist can never catch. This is the big one. It is in development, not shipped.
Strive reaching out to you
Strive already lives in your circle to talk with anytime. Next, once our messaging line is live, Strive will proactively text you to check in and encourage you, and will be right there in the moments after a setback. Phone-call support is further out.
Whole-home plug-in box
A small pre-configured device you plug in for instant whole-home coverage, especially for the locked ISP gateways where you cannot change DNS in software.
Android app and native Private DNS
A dedicated Android app with an always-on filter, plus native encrypted-DNS support so basic coverage works with no app at all.
Community-powered blocking
A crawler plus community flagging so the user base helps catch fast-moving sites, especially AI image generators, faster than any static list can on its own.
Plans & billing
The practical details.
Is there a free version?
Yes. Real device-level protection for one person, with your streak, milestones, and up to a couple of allies, is free. Whole-home coverage, unlimited allies, family profiles, and advanced features are on the paid plans.
What do the paid plans include?
Whole-home protection through your router or our plug-in box, unlimited devices and allies, quiet hours, family profiles for every person in your home, and priority support. Plans and current pricing are on the home page.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, anytime, no hoops. In the spirit of accountability, canceling or downgrading notifies your circle, the same as any other change to your protection, so the people walking with you are never surprised.
How do I add an ally?
Open your circle, tap add an ally, and enter their name and how to reach them. They start getting the alerts you have chosen right away. You can add, adjust, or remove allies whenever you need.
You do not have to fight this alone.
